Frequently asked questions
Which guitar has better tuning stability?
The Damien Platinum-9 uses a hardtail bridge for maximum stability without tremolo drift. The Sun Valley Super Shredder FR-S relies on the Floyd Rose Special locking tremolo, which maintains tuning well during aggressive use but requires periodic maintenance and setup attention.
Can I play standard tuning on the Damien Platinum-9?
Yes, the 9-string can be tuned to standard pitch, but it excels in drop-A, drop-G, and extended low tunings where the extra range shines. Most players favor it for progressive metal and djent rather than standard-tuning applications.
What's the main tonal difference between the pickups?
The Damien's dual EMG 909s prioritize articulate, controlled aggression across all nine strings. The Sun Valley pairs an EMG Retro Active Hot 70 bridge pickup (punchy rhythm) with a Sustainiac neck pickup (harmonic-rich textures), offering more tonal variety within a 6-string format.
Which is better for someone learning extended-range guitar?
The Damien Platinum-9's thinner C neck and generous upper-fret access support learning across nine strings, but the Sun Valley's standard 6-string format with Floyd Rose may suit beginners transitioning from conventional electrics. Both require intermediate-to-advanced skill.
