H. Jimenez Bajo Quintos – Studio Gears
H. Jimenez builds the instruments at the heart of regional Mexican music: bajo quintos, bajo sextos, requintos and the rest of the norteño, conjunto and Tejano family. Studio Gears is an authorized H. Jimenez dealer and keeps the El Patrón bajo quinto in stock at our Temecula, California store, ready to ship free anywhere in the continental US.
Every H. Jimenez we sell is brand new in the original box with the manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty, and because it is our own inventory rather than a drop-ship, we can answer questions about setup, string gauges and electronics before you buy.
What is a bajo quinto?
A bajo quinto is a 10-string acoustic instrument with five double courses, tuned A–D–G–C–F in fourths with the lower courses paired in octaves. It plays the bass line and the driving rhythm of norteño and conjunto music, usually alongside a button accordion. Its 12-string cousin, the bajo sexto, adds a sixth, lower course; most modern players choose the quinto for its lighter weight, easier fretting and punchier projection on stage.
