Sound & Tone

The solid German spruce top gives this soprano a bright, projecting voice with clear note definition, while the solid maple back and sides tighten things up with crisp highs and focused, defined lows rather than a loose, boomy low end. Aquila Nylgut strings soften that brightness with a warmer attack, and the nubone nut and saddle help notes ring on a little longer than the short 340mm scale might suggest. It's a natural fit for traditional soprano strumming, chord-melody work and vocal accompaniment where a punchy, articulate tone needs to cut through, and the 12-fret layout with 35mm nut keeps it in classic soprano territory.

Baton Rouge UTM-S Flamed Maple Soprano Ukulele

The UTM-S captures the bright, articulate character of a soprano ukulele in a recording-ready package. Built with solid wood construction, this instrument delivers surprising tonal depth and clarity across its frequency range—ideal for layering into productions, overdubbing parts, or establishing a distinctive textural element in the mix. The 340mm scale length and 35mm nut width provide ergonomic comfort during extended session work, while the satin finish offers a natural, uncolored playing feel that doesn't interfere with technique or feel.

Tone & Recording Character

A solid German spruce top paired with solid maple back and sides produces a balanced, focused tonal palette—the spruce delivers brightness and clarity ideal for cutting through a dense mix, while the maple contributes crisp highs and controlled low-mid presence that sits cleanly in the stereo field. The nubone nut and saddle enhance sustain and harmonic definition, capturing precise note articulation during tracking. Factory-installed Aquila Nylgut strings provide warm, stable tone and consistent tuning throughout a session without the break-in period that delays workflow.

Session Stability & Playability

The maple neck ensures rock-solid structural integrity for consistent intonation across multiple takes and mic positions, while the eucalyptus fingerboard offers a smooth, responsive surface for extended session comfort. Open guitar-style machineheads with gold finish provide reliable, precise tuning adjustments between passes, and the fitted strap button enables secure positioning for seated or standing recording setups.

Lovely little ukulele!
Review by
This is a beautiful little ukulele, which I bought because The online reviews of it that I read on Gotaukulele and similar sites indicated that it was very well-made and an excellent value. So far I’d have to agree. Although of course the strings take a while to settle (and I’m going to change out the high “G” string for a low one) it appears well-made, has a sweet tone, and projects quite loudly for such a small instrument. I’m glad I got it, and look forward to many years of making beautiful music with it.

The ukulele arrives with Aquila Nylgut strings already installed and includes open guitar-style machineheads with gold finish for precise tuning, a fitted strap button for comfortable playing seated or standing, and gold endpin.
