Frequently asked questions
Are these two products compatible with the same fixture?
No. The MAC Aura PXL SoftLens attaches to the MAC Aura PXL fixture, while the VDO Sceptron XB Blade Lens is designed exclusively for the 1000mm VDO Sceptron XB fixture. They are not interchangeable.
Which is better for long-throw beam work?
Neither the MAC Aura PXL SoftLens (explicitly not ideal for long-throw work) nor the VDO Sceptron XB Blade Lens documentation emphasizes long-throw capability. The Blade Lens is designed for variable throw distances with the VDO Sceptron XB 1000mm, making it the more versatile choice for throw applications if you own that fixture.
Can I use the SoftLens for spot lighting or hard-edge effects?
No. The MAC Aura PXL SoftLens is explicitly not ideal for spot lighting or hard-edge effects; it produces soft, diffuse wash light. If you need crisp, hard-edged beams, a different lens or fixture would be more appropriate.
What skill level do I need for installation?
The MAC Aura PXL SoftLens features tool-less removal and simple screw attachment, suitable for intermediate users. The VDO Sceptron XB Blade Lens is designed for professional touring environments and assumes professional-level field maintenance capabilities.
