Frequently asked questions
Can I use either pickup set on a bass guitar?
The EMG SAX set is explicitly compatible with both bass and electric guitar. The SAX/SAX/81X is designed for Stratocaster-style electric guitar configuration and does not mention bass compatibility.
Which set is better for rock and metal?
The SAX/SAX/81X is optimized for rock, metal, and hard rock with its combination of articulate SAX single coils and a thick, aggressive 81X humbucker bridge pickup. The SAX set excels in studio and home recording but is not recommended for traditional rock or metal styles.
What is the main tonal difference between these two sets?
The SAX delivers bright, airy single-coil tone with rich low end and virtually silent operation. The SAX/SAX/81X adds a ceramic-steel humbucker bridge pickup for punchy attack and sustained aggression, giving you both delicate single-coil articulation and thick humbucker power in one system.
Do both sets require soldering?
Both sets feature EMG's solderless installation system, streamlining the retrofit process. The SAX/SAX/81X additionally includes potentiometers, switch jack, and battery clip, so it is a more complete pre-assembled solution.
