Frequently asked questions
Which pickup fits my bass without routing?
The EMG 45TW fits standard 6-string soapbar cavities. The EMG MM5TW is designed for Music Man bass cavities and requires no routing on those instruments. Both are direct replacements for their respective body types.
Can I use either pickup in funk and metal?
Yes. The 45TW is listed for funk and studio sessions with switchable single-coil warmth and humbucker aggression. The MM5TW is specifically optimized for funk and metal with its dedicated modes and aggressive midrange character.
What is the string-width difference between these pickups?
The 45TW accommodates up to 92.0mm (3.62 inches), suitable for modern 6-string basses. The MM5TW supports up to 78.23mm (3.08 inches), typical for Music Man 5-string instruments. This determines which bass each pickup will properly align with.
Do both pickups have active electronics?
